Roth DWT 400L Overview

The Roth DWT 400L is a 110-gallon (400-liter) double-wall oil storage tank designed for residential heating oil. It uses the same double-wall construction as the larger 275 and 400-gallon models: a seamless blow-molded HDPE inner tank surrounded by a galvanized steel outer shell with a built-in optical leak alarm between the walls.

At just 29 inches long, 28 inches wide, and 44 inches tall, the 110-gallon is the smallest tank in the Roth residential lineup. It fits in spaces where a standard 275-gallon tank simply will not go, including utility closets, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and narrow basement alcoves.

Weighing only 106 pounds empty, a single installer can carry it through a standard doorway. Compare that to a steel tank of similar capacity, which weighs roughly 55% more and often requires two people to maneuver.

Who Is the 110-Gallon Roth Right For?

The smallest Roth tank fits homes and spaces where a 275-gallon is too large.

Small Homes and Condos

Homes under 1,000 square feet with moderate heating demand. The 110-gallon holds enough oil for several weeks of heat in a small home, depending on consumption and outdoor temperatures.

Apartments and In-Law Suites

Separate heating zones in multi-family homes, accessory dwelling units, or in-law apartments that have their own oil burner but limited space for a full-size tank.

Tight Utility Spaces

Utility closets, narrow mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and basement alcoves where a 275-gallon tank simply will not fit. At 29 by 28 inches, the 110-gallon has one of the smallest footprints of any residential oil tank.

Seasonal and Vacation Homes

Cottages, beach houses, and vacation properties on Long Island that are heated only part of the year. Lower annual consumption means a smaller tank is all you need.

Supplemental Heating Systems

Homes that use oil as a backup or supplemental heating source alongside a heat pump, gas furnace, or other primary system. The 110-gallon provides enough reserve without taking up unnecessary space.

Outdoor Installations

Properties where the tank must be installed outside due to basement limitations. The compact size and weather-resistant construction make the 110-gallon a practical outdoor option with a tank hood for protection.

How the 110-Gallon Roth Is Built

HDPE Inner Tank

The inner tank is seamless and blow-molded from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with a wall thickness of 0.25 inches. HDPE is the same material used in food-grade containers and municipal water pipes. It does not rust, pit, corrode, or react with heating oil. There are no seams, welds, or joints that can weaken over time.

Galvanized Steel Outer Shell

The outer tank is roll-formed from 19-gauge galvanized steel. It is a fully sealed secondary containment vessel designed to hold 110% of the inner tank's volume. If the inner tank ever fails, the outer shell catches every drop before oil reaches your floor or the environment.

Optical Leak Alarm

An optical leak sensor sits in the interstitial space between the inner and outer tanks. If oil enters this space, the sensor triggers a visible alarm immediately. This gives you early warning long before any oil could leave the tank, unlike steel tanks which have no leak detection whatsoever.

Top-Mounted Fittings

Four 2-inch FNPT metallic fittings are mounted on top of the tank for the supply line, return line, fill pipe, and vent pipe. The lock-down double-ring fill caps eliminate odor during refilling. Both the inner and outer tanks are pressure tested at the factory per UL standards and do not require field testing.

How much does a 110-gallon installation cost?

Who should get a 110-gallon Roth tank?

The 110-gallon is ideal for apartments, condos, small homes under 1,000 square feet, supplemental heating systems, utility closets, and spaces where a 275-gallon tank will not fit. It is also a good choice for seasonal homes or cottages with lower heating demand.

Can the 110-gallon be installed outdoors?

Yes. The Roth 110-gallon is approved for both indoor and outdoor installation. For outdoor setups, we add a tank hood or weather cap to protect the fittings and gauge from the elements. The galvanized steel outer shell is weather-resistant. Outdoor tanks are placed on a concrete pad or paver base.

Does the 110-gallon come with the same warranty as larger models?

Yes. Every Roth tank, regardless of size, comes with the same 30-year limited manufacturer warranty and 10 years of environmental insurance with up to $2 million in cleanup coverage and $2 million in property damage coverage per occurrence.
