General Questions

What is a Roth double-wall oil tank?

A Roth double-wall oil tank consists of a seamless blow-molded HDPE (high-density polyethylene) inner tank enclosed inside a galvanized steel outer shell. The outer shell holds 110% of the inner tank's capacity, acting as built-in secondary containment. An optical leak sensor sits between the two walls and triggers an alarm if oil ever enters the interstitial space. This design eliminates the risk of oil reaching your floor, soil, or groundwater.

What size Roth tank do I need?

The 110-gallon is ideal for apartments, condos, and small homes under 1,000 square feet. The 275-gallon is the most popular size on Long Island and fits 3-bedroom homes from 1,200 to 1,700 square feet. The 400-gallon serves larger homes up to 2,500 square feet and requires fewer oil deliveries per season. During your free in-home estimate, we will measure your space, assess your heating demand, and recommend the right size.

Will a Roth tank fit in my basement with low ceilings?

Yes. Roth makes low-profile (low-height) models specifically for basements with limited ceiling clearance. The 275-gallon low-height model is the most popular choice for Long Island homes with this issue. Roth tanks are also lighter than steel tanks of the same capacity, making them easier to maneuver down stairs and through tight doorways.

Can a Roth tank be installed outdoors?

Yes. Roth tanks are approved for both indoor and outdoor installation. For outdoor installations, we add a tank hood or weather cap to protect the fittings and gauge from rain, snow, and UV exposure. The galvanized steel outer shell is weather-resistant and designed to withstand the elements. Outdoor tanks are installed on a concrete pad or paver base.

Are Roth tanks approved for use on Long Island?

Yes. Roth tanks are UL 2258 listed, NFPA 31 compliant, and approved for indoor and outdoor residential use across New York State. They are the preferred tank among Long Island oil companies, insurance providers, and environmental regulators.

Installation Questions

How long does installation take?

Most Roth tank installations are completed in a single day, typically within 4 to 6 hours. This includes draining and removing your old tank, placing the new Roth, running all new copper piping, installing the Tiger Loop, transferring your oil, testing the entire system, and cleaning up the work area.

What is included in the installation?

Every installation includes the brand-new Roth double-wall tank, removal and disposal of your old tank, all new copper piping with shut-off valves and oil filter, a Tiger Loop air eliminator, oil transfer from your old tank, full system testing, 30-year warranty registration, and activation of your 10-year environmental insurance with $2 million in coverage. All necessary accessories (tank hood, whistle vent, oil safety valve, etc.) are included based on your setup.

What is a Tiger Loop and why is it included?

A Tiger Loop is an air eliminator installed on the oil supply line between your tank and burner. It continuously removes air from the fuel system. The biggest benefit is that if you ever run out of heating oil, your burner will restart on its own once your tank is refilled. Without a Tiger Loop, running out of oil means calling a technician to bleed the lines and prime the pump, which can cost $150 to $300 per service call. Domino's includes a Tiger Loop with every installation at no extra charge.

What happens to my old tank?

We drain and remove your old steel tank as part of every installation. The old tank is hauled away and recycled at an approved facility. Any remaining usable oil is filtered and transferred into your new Roth tank so you do not lose fuel during the changeover. If your old oil has excessive sediment, we will let you know and recommend a fresh delivery instead.

What extra parts might be needed?

Depending on your setup, your installation may include a tank hood or weather cap for outdoor tanks, a whistle vent alarm to prevent overfills during delivery, an oil safety valve (OSV) for gravity-fed systems, a fire-rated sleeve if the supply line passes through a wall, flexible connectors, and a gauge guard. All necessary accessories are assessed during your free estimate and included in your quoted price. There are no surprise add-ons.

Do you offer emergency installations?

Yes. If your tank is leaking or has been condemned by your oil company or insurance provider, we offer emergency installations. We carry Roth tanks in stock and can often complete an emergency replacement within 24 to 48 hours. Call (631) 881-4772 any day from 7 AM to 9 PM.

Pricing Questions

How much does a Roth tank installation cost on Long Island?

Roth double-wall oil tank installation on Long Island ranges from $2,690 to $6,300 depending on the tank size. A 110-gallon runs $2,690 to $3,290, a 275-gallon runs $2,990 to $3,690, and a 400-gallon runs $4,500 to $6,300. The final price depends on accessibility, old tank removal complexity, and piping requirements. Call (631) 881-4772 for a free in-home estimate.

Do you guarantee the best price?

Yes. Domino's offers a best price guarantee on Roth tank installation across Long Island. If you receive a lower written quote from another licensed and insured installer for the same Roth tank and comparable scope of work, we will match or beat that price.

Is a Roth tank worth the extra cost over a steel tank?

Yes. A steel tank costs less upfront, but the total cost of ownership is much higher. Steel tanks need replacement every 15 to 20 years, have no environmental insurance, and carry the risk of an oil spill that can cost $10,000 to $100,000 or more to clean up. A Roth tank lasts 30+ years, includes $2 million in cleanup insurance, and eliminates any risk of oil reaching your floor, soil, or groundwater. Over the life of the tank, the Roth is the more affordable option.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. The price we quote during your free in-home estimate is the price you pay. This includes the Roth tank, old tank removal, new piping, Tiger Loop, oil transfer, system testing, warranty registration, insurance activation, and all necessary accessories. There are no surprise add-ons or hidden charges.

Warranty and Insurance Questions

What does the 30-year warranty cover?

The Roth 30-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in the inner HDPE tank, the outer galvanized steel shell, and the optical leak detection sensor. If any component fails due to a manufacturing defect within 30 years of installation, Roth will replace it. The warranty requires installation by a certified Roth installer. Domino's is a certified installer and registers your warranty at the time of installation.

What does the $2 million environmental insurance cover?

The policy covers up to $2 million for cleanup costs and up to $2 million for third-party property damage per occurrence. This includes soil testing, excavation and removal of contaminated soil, groundwater monitoring, contaminated material disposal, and damage to neighboring properties. The policy is active for 10 years from the date of installation. It is included in the price of every Roth tank installed by Domino's.

Does my homeowner insurance cover oil tank leaks?

No. Standard homeowner insurance policies contain a pollution exclusion clause that specifically excludes coverage for heating oil contamination. If a steel tank leaks and oil reaches the soil or groundwater, you pay the entire cleanup cost out of pocket. Remediation on Long Island can cost $10,000 to over $100,000 depending on the extent of contamination. The Roth environmental insurance fills this gap with $2 million in coverage per occurrence.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell my home?

Yes. Both the 30-year manufacturer warranty and the 10-year environmental insurance policy are fully transferable to subsequent homeowners for the remaining term. No additional paperwork or fees are required. This can increase your home's resale value and gives buyers confidence that the oil storage system is protected.

What voids the warranty?

The warranty may be voided by installation by a non-certified installer, storing anything other than #2 heating oil in the tank, physical damage or modifications to the tank after installation, using the tank for commercial or industrial purposes, or failure to maintain the tank in accordance with Roth's guidelines. The most common reason for a voided warranty is installation by a company that is not certified by Roth.
