Every Roth tank comes with both a manufacturer warranty and environmental insurance. Together, they cover the tank itself and any environmental damage.
30-Year Manufacturer Warranty
Covers defects in the tank
Roth Industries backs every tank with a 30-year limited warranty. This covers manufacturing defects in all three core components: the HDPE inner tank, the galvanized steel outer shell, and the optical leak detection sensor. If any component fails due to a manufacturing defect within 30 years of installation, Roth will replace it.
For comparison, most steel oil tank manufacturers offer a 1-year to 10-year warranty, and most will not cover internal corrosion, which is the most common reason steel tanks fail.
$2 Million Environmental Insurance
Covers cleanup and property damage
Every Roth tank includes 10 years of environmental insurance from the date of installation. The policy provides up to $2 million for cleanup costs and up to $2 million for third-party property damage per occurrence. This covers soil remediation, groundwater monitoring, contaminated material disposal, and damage to neighboring properties.
Your standard homeowner insurance policy will not pay for any of this. The pollution exclusion clause specifically excludes heating oil contamination.
Environmental Insurance: What It Covers
The protection your homeowner policy does not provide.
Standard homeowner insurance policies include a pollution exclusion clause that specifically denies coverage for heating oil contamination. If your steel tank leaks and oil reaches the soil or groundwater, you pay for the entire cleanup yourself. On Long Island, where the shallow water table sits above a sole-source aquifer, remediation costs can be significant.
The Roth environmental insurance policy covers:
- Soil testing, sampling, and environmental assessment
- Excavation and removal of contaminated soil
- Disposal of contaminated materials at approved facilities
- Installation and monitoring of groundwater monitoring wells
- Ongoing groundwater sampling and laboratory analysis
- Third-party property damage (if contamination reaches a neighbor's property)
- Legal defense costs related to covered environmental claims
The policy provides up to $2 million for cleanup costs and up to $2 million for third-party property damage per occurrence. Coverage begins on the date of installation and remains active for 10 years. The policy is transferable, meaning if you sell your home, the new owner inherits the remaining coverage.
Domino's activates your insurance at the time of installation and provides you with your certificate of insurance. You do not need to file any paperwork or pay any additional premiums. The insurance is included in the price of every Roth tank.
Why This Matters on Long Island
Sole-Source Aquifer
Long Island's drinking water comes from a single underground aquifer with no backup supply. Oil contamination in the soil can migrate to this aquifer. Environmental regulators take any heating oil release seriously, and remediation requirements reflect the sensitivity of the water supply.
Shallow Water Table
In many parts of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the water table sits just 5 to 15 feet below the surface. Oil that enters the soil does not have far to travel before reaching groundwater. The faster contamination reaches the water table, the more expensive and complex the cleanup becomes.
Aging Steel Tank Inventory
Thousands of Long Island homes still have single-wall steel tanks that are 15, 20, or 30+ years old. Many are well past their expected lifespan and are corroding from the inside without any visible signs on the outside. A proactive replacement with a Roth tank is far less expensive than a reactive cleanup after a leak.
Roth vs Steel: Warranty and Insurance Comparison
| Protection | Roth Double-Wall | Steel Single-Wall |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer Warranty | 30 years | 1 to 10 years (varies) |
| Internal Corrosion Covered | Not applicable (HDPE cannot corrode) | Typically excluded |
| Environmental Insurance | $2M cleanup + $2M property damage | None included |
| Insurance Duration | 10 years from installation | N/A |
| Leak Detection | Built-in optical sensor with alarm | None |
| Secondary Containment | Yes (outer shell holds 110% capacity) | None |
| Homeowner Insurance Coverage | Roth insurance fills the pollution exclusion gap | Excluded under pollution exclusion clause |
| Transferable to New Owner | Yes (warranty and insurance) | Varies by manufacturer |
How to Keep Your Warranty Valid
Maintaining your Roth warranty coverage is simple. Follow these guidelines.
Use a Certified Installer
The single most important requirement. Roth requires that all tanks be installed by a certified Roth installer. Installation by a non-certified company voids the warranty entirely. Domino's Oil Tank Service is a certified Roth installer and has been installing these tanks on Long Island for years.
Store Only Heating Oil
The Roth tank is designed and warranted for #2 heating oil (fuel oil) only. Do not store gasoline, kerosene, diesel, biodiesel blends above the manufacturer's recommended percentage, or any other liquid in the tank.
Do Not Modify the Tank
Do not drill into, cut, weld, or otherwise modify the tank or its components after installation. Do not remove, bypass, or tamper with the optical leak detection sensor. Any modifications void the warranty.
Keep Your Documentation
Domino's provides you with your warranty registration, certificate of insurance, and installation documentation at the time of service. Keep these documents in a safe place. You will need your tank serial number and proof of certified installation to file any claim.
Warranty and Insurance FAQ
What does the Roth 30-year warranty cover?
The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the inner HDPE tank, the outer galvanized steel shell, and the optical leak detection sensor. If any component fails due to a manufacturing defect within 30 years of installation, Roth will replace it. The warranty does not cover damage from improper installation, physical abuse, fire, flooding, or modifications made after installation.
What does the $2 million environmental insurance cover?
The policy covers up to $2 million for cleanup costs and up to $2 million for third-party property damage per occurrence. This includes soil remediation, groundwater monitoring, contaminated material disposal, and damage to neighboring properties caused by a release from the Roth tank. The policy is active for 10 years from the date of installation.
Is the warranty transferable to a new homeowner?
Yes. Both the manufacturer warranty and the environmental insurance policy transfer to subsequent homeowners for the remaining term. This can be a selling point when listing your home, as the buyer inherits the full protection. No additional paperwork or fees are required for the transfer.
Does my homeowner insurance cover oil tank leaks?
No. Standard homeowner insurance policies contain a pollution exclusion clause that specifically excludes coverage for heating oil contamination. If a steel tank leaks and oil reaches the soil or groundwater, you pay the entire cleanup cost out of pocket. Remediation on Long Island can range from $10,000 to over $100,000 depending on the extent of contamination. The Roth environmental insurance fills this gap with $2 million in coverage per occurrence.
How do I file a warranty or insurance claim?
For warranty claims, contact Roth Industries directly with your tank serial number and proof of installation by a certified installer. For environmental insurance claims, contact the insurance provider listed on your certificate of insurance. Domino's registers your warranty and activates your insurance at the time of installation and provides you with all the documentation you need.
What voids the Roth warranty?
The warranty may be voided by installation by a non-certified installer, storing anything other than #2 heating oil, physical damage or modifications to the tank after installation, using the tank for commercial or industrial purposes, or failure to maintain the tank in accordance with Roth's guidelines. The most common reason for a voided warranty is installation by a company that is not certified by Roth.
